Patient runs out of ICU

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, AUG. 13. There was high drama in the Medical College Hospital after a patient, who had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), ran out of the hospital in the early hours on Friday with the drip tubes and other paraphernalia attached to his body and disappeared for hours together. The patient came back around noon and the doctors admitted him back to the ward.

Governor's message

In a message of greetings issued today in connection with the 57th anniversary of Independence, the Governor, R.L. Bhatia, said that preservation of the country's independence attained through decades of struggle should be the main concern of the people, especially when it was being threatened by sectarian elements.

NICD team's visit

A team of experts from the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), New Delhi, who visited various districts had expressed satisfaction about the preventive and control measures adopted by the State to check the spread of diseases, an official release issued by the Directorate of Health Services, said.

Hotel industry plea

The Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association has urged the Government to declare the hotel industry as a small-scale industry and to set up a separate welfare fund exclusively for those working in over one lakh hotels in the State.

Building cess

A proposal to entrust the local bodies with the responsibility of collecting cess on buildings has been placed before the State Government, according to K.P. Sankaradas, chairman of the Kerala Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board.

Course

The YMCA, Thiruvananthapuram, under the auspices of its Student and Youth Work Department, is organising a course on Neuro-Linguistic Programming. The course in to begin on August 16. Classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. More details are available on telephone number 2330059.
