Drop in humidity

The Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 35.9 degree Celsius and a minimum of 24.1 degree Celsius, on Sunday. Humidity dropped from 74 per cent in the morning to 52 per cent in the evening.

Syndicate Bank staff gesture

Members of the Syndicate Bank Employees' Union on Sunday distributed towels, soaps, rice and other groceries to the children of Sarvodaya Seva Ashrama Samstha at New Rajarajeswaripet, to mark the 10th death anniversary of H. Rajiv Shetty, deputy general secretary of the union and a workmen director of Syndicate Bank. The secretary of the city unit of All-India Trade Union Congress, K. Sekhar Babu, the vice-president, P. Anki Naidu, the State assistant secretary, T. S. Raju Babu, and others participated.

Health workers' plea

Members of the Urban Community Development and Health Workers' Union, affiliated to the Centre for Indian Trade Union, urged the Minister for Municipal Administration, Koneru Ranga Rao, to take immediate steps for their reinstatement in service. In a statement issued here on Sunday, the union leaders pointed out that they were abruptly removed after serving the municipality as attenders of Balawadi schools, community health workers and voluntary social workers in the past 14 years. Alleging that the erstwhile Municipal Commissioner had removed 640 employees without any Government orders, they said their families would die of starvation if the situation, was allowed to persist.

Seminar

Backache is the most common ailment found in almost every second person, said K. V. V. Satyanarayana Murthy. Speaking at a seminar on backache here on Sunday, jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Vijayawada Central and Vijaya Hospitals Health and Personality Development Society, Dr. Murthy pointed out that unlike in the past when those suffering from backache comprised mostly aged people, the ailment had been targeting even youngsters these days.
