Cloudy sky forecast

NEW DELHI JULY 10. The weatherman has forecast a generally cloudy sky with likelihood of rain or thundershower in some areas of the Capital.

The maximum and minimum temperature recorded at Safdarjung was 38.1 and 29.6 degree Celsius, while Palam recorded a maximum of 38.5 degree Celsius and a minimum of 29.7 degree Celsius.

The maximum and minimum humidity at Safdarjung was 72 per cent and 37 per cent respectively, while Palam recorded a maximum humidity of 60 per cent and a minimum of 38 per cent.

Traffic cop arrested

NEW DELHI JULY 10. Anoop Singh, the Traffic Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) who had allegedly shot at and injured a jeep driver at Nangloi in West Delhi on Friday, was arrested by the Crime Branch on Saturday. He has been sent to 14-day judicial custody while the victim is recovering in Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.

According to the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Anoop was arrested and produced before a Duty Magistrate, who sent him to Tihar Central Jail. Anoop had allegedly shot at and injured the jeep driver, Surender, following a heated exchange of words apparently over parking of the vehicle near Nangloi Chowk.

The police said a probe was on to find out the truth behind the incident. The Traffic Inspector of Punjabi Bagh circle, Pratap Singh, who was transferred soon after the incident was brought to the notice of senior police officers, has now been sent to police lines. Enquiries so far have revealed that like the victim, Surender, several residents of border areas like Nangloi, Najafgarh and Bahadurgarh ferry passengers in jeeps and tempos without authorisation.

Caught

NEW DELHI JULY 10. Four persons allegedly involved in auto thefts have been arrested from Mansarovar Park in North-East Delhi. At their instance, the police claim to have recovered 12 stolen vehicles.

Acting on a tip-off that some criminals would come to Mansarovar Park for auto-lifting, the police laid a trap and intercepted a Maruti car on Loni Road in which the suspects were travelling. They could not produce the papers of the vehicle, after which they were detained. The accused were identified as Anil, Sharad Kumar, Mukesh and Deepak Chaudhary.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in auto-thefts. They claimed that they were initiated into the world of crime due to unemployment. At their instance, the police recovered 11stolen motorcycles, which were to be disposed of in Uttar Pradesh.

Nabbed

NEW DELHI JULY 10. Two alleged auto-lifters were arrested from Nangloi in West Delhi on July 6 and two stolen vehicles recovered from them.

The accused, Taqdeer and Sandeep, were arrested by a police team carrying out a routine check of vehicles. The team stopped the Maruti car in which the two were travelling. After they were unable to produce the papers of the car, they were detained. During interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in at least three cases of auto-thefts. A motorcycle was also recovered at their instance.

The police said both accused were childhood friends as they had studied together. They had also committed some vehicle thefts at Bahadurgarh and Sonepat in Haryana.
