`Sao's pistol not test-fired'
In the report, the laboratory submitted that "the weapon could be designed to fire 8 or 10 or 12 bore cartridges after due finishing". However, the report clarified that "the weapon was not test-fired as it did not have the standard spring, hammer, extractor and chamber". Later, the Metropolitan Magistrate, Siddharth Mishra, remanded Sao, who had been admitted to the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences at Shahdara here for a psycho-diagnosis last week, to judicial custody. His medical report is awaited.
Woman, kids rescued
According to the police, the PCR received a call around 9 a.m. saying that a fire had broken out in a furniture shop near Shiv Mandir at Dhirpur in Mukherjee Nagar. Two fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. The PCR staff also reached the spot. As the fire fighters were busy dousing the fire, Pradeep, a resident of house No. 30 -- adjacent to the shop in which the fire had broken out -- informed the PCR staff that his wife, Madhu, and sons Mukul (11), Ritesh (7) and six-month-old Yogesh, were trapped inside the house. The PCR staff, along with a constable from Mukherjee Nagar police station, went into the house and managed to bring out the woman and her children. Nobody was injured in the incident.
Man killed
According to the police, one Abdul Rashid, who runs a rickshaw garage at Yamuna Vihar in Bhajanpura, had rented out a rickshaw to Imran, a resident of Yamuna Vihar, sometime ago. However, Imran disappeared after that. The police said another rickshaw puller, Kavinder, spotted Imran around Tuesday midnight and took him to Abdul. A heated verbal exchange ensued when the two confronted Imran on the issue. In a fit of rage, both Kavinder and Abdul slapped Imran. Imran, in retaliation, picked up a piece of junk iron and hit hard on Kavinder's head. Kavinder died on the spot. The police were subsequently informed.
Four held
According to the police, Dharmender, Ajay Kumar, Suleman and Tejpal were arrested from a park at Paschim Vihar in West Delhi on Tuesday. The police recovered sharp-edged weapons from the accused. The leaders of the gang, Raju Kanpuria and Chand, managed to flee under the cover of darkness, the police said.
