Yuva Morcha rally disrupts train services

By Our Special Correspondent

KOZHIKODE, JULY 7. Train services through Kozhikode station were delayed because of demonstrations by activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who were protesting against the "raw deal" dealt out to Kerala in the Railway budget.

Yuva Janata activists blocked the Chennai-Mangalore mail at Kozhikode railway station delaying departure of the train by nearly 30 minutes in the morning. The Mangala Express was held up at West Hill station for nearly an hour also in the morning.

The demonstrations were inaugurated by Yuva Morcha State president K. Surendran. Mr. Surendran said in terms of allocations proposed in Lalu Prasad's budget, Kerala was the most neglected State. While Tamil Nadu got four new trains, Kerala was not given a single new train service. He also said the Rs.35 crores proposed in the interim budget was slashed to Rs.10 crores in the United Prograssive Alliance (UPA) Government's budget.

The Yuva Morcha leader held the MPs from Kerala representing both Congress (I) and CPI(M) responsible for the meagre allocations Kerala received in the Railway budget. He remarked CPI(M) MPs from the State owed an explanation to the people why they were supporting UPA government even though it was not concerned about the State's railway development.

At the Palakkad Railway junction, the activists of the Yuva Morcha picketed the Kerala Express coming from New Delhi bound for Thiruvanathapuram in the morning here today to protest against the neglect of the State in the railway budget.

The picketing was inaugurated by Yuva Morcha State general secretary, Mr. Venugopal, and addressed by district president, Krishnakumar and the secretary, Bhasi.
