dated July 07, 1954: Wimbledon champions

Miss M. Connolly, queen of the world's tennis courts, swept regally to victory over Miss A. L. Brough by 6-2, 7-5 in the all-American women's final at Wimbledon on July 3. At 19, the little automation from San Diego, California, is the youngest player in the 70 years of the event to wear the Wimbledon crown for three successive years. R. Krishnan, the 17-year-old Indian Davis Cup player, won the Junior singles event in the Wimbledon championship. Runner-up in this competition last year, Krishnan beat A. Cooper, Australia's leading junior from Melbourne, 6-2, 7-5 in the final. It was a hard-hitting match, in which both played attacking tennis. Krishnan's powerful service was the most profitable weapon in his armament and frequently he aced his way out of a crisis. As he came off the court Krishnan was congratulated by a group of Indian admirers.
