6 killed in landmine blast

RANCHI, JUNE 22. Six persons — five police personnel and a civilian driver — were killed and another policeman injured when their jeep was blown up by a landmine planted by suspected extremists at Rania in Ranchi district tonight, the Director General of Police, R.R. Prasad said.

Mr. Prasad told PTI that the police personnel were on a routine patrol at Rania about 100 km from the state capital when their jeep was blown up by the landmine planted by suspected extremists.

He said the dead included a sub-inspector.

Additional police forces have been rushed to the area, the DGP added.
