Letters to the Editor
Sir, The former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has made conflicting statements on the Narendra Modi issue. First he blamed the Gujarat riots for the NDA's electoral debacle, and hinted at the possibility of removing Mr. Modi. Then he owned up responsibility for the NDA's defeat. Now he says the Modi issue is a thing of the past. Apparently, he is under pressure from his party to deflect the spotlight from Mr. Modi.
B.H. Shanmukhappa,
* * * Sir, The BJP has not been able to decide whether Mr. Modi is an asset or liability. People would like a new BJP and Mr. Modi's ouster will be a step in the right direction.
Bishu Prusty,
* * * Sir, Mr. Vajpayee's remarks about the reasons for the BJP's poll debacle show he is a statesman.
Vemula Rajasekhar,
