Partly cloudy day, rain possible

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, JUNE 9.JUNE 9.JUNE 9 The weatherman has forecast a partly cloudy sky with possibility of light rain or thundershower in some parts of the Capital on Thursday. The day temperature is likely to rise and might peak at 37 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Wednesday were 30.6 degrees and 23.5 degrees Celsius respectively. Palam recorded a maximum of 31 degrees and minimum of 24 degrees Celsius.

Safdarjung recorded 3.9 mm rain while at Palam it was 0.4 mm. The maximum humidity recorded at Safdarjung and Palam was 88 per cent and 93 per cent, while the minimum humidity was 60 and 62 per cent respectively.

Call girl racket smashed

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, JUNE 9.JUNE 9.JUNE 9 Four persons, including a woman, who were allegedly running a prostitution racket, were arrested by the Crime Branch from South Extension in South Delhi on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off that one Hemant had been arranging prostitutes for his clients, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Deepak Purohit, sent a decoy to strike a deal with him. The deal was fixed for Rs. 6,000 and the decoy was asked to come to South Extension. The decoy met Hemant and his two accomplices, who had come along with a woman. They showed the woman to the decoy and demanded the money, when the police mounted a raid and arrested the four. The other three were identified as Pranab, Yashpal and Nisha Parveen. Three mobile phones were recovered from their possession.

Auto-lifters arrested

NEW DELHINEW DELHINEW DELHI, JUNE 9.JUNE 9.JUNE 9 Three alleged auto-lifters were arrested from Najafgarh by the Special Staff of the South-West Delhi police on Tuesday. At their instance, the police recovered three stolen Maruti 800 cars and four motorcycles.

Acting on a tip-off that a notorious auto-lifter, Suresh Kumar, who was currently out on bail, would come to Najafgarh, a team comprising Sub-Inspector Rajkumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Charan Singh, and others laid a trap and arrested him along with his accomplices, Naresh and Anil.

During interrogation, Suresh disclosed that he came to Delhi in 1997 and started working as a truck driver. In April 2003, he came in contact with some criminals and they robbed a car at Sonepat in Haryana. However, they were arrested by the Najafgarh police and sent behind bars. Suresh secured his bail after a while and formed a gang to commit auto-thefts and robberies. He was allegedly involved in 12 such cases.

In another case, Anit, who was driving a motorcycle stolen from Rao Tula Ram Hospital, was arrested from Kair Road village in South-West Delhi today.
