CHENNAI, JUNE 3. The Tamil film Pithamagan is set to hog the limelight in the Filmfare Awards 2003 (South), being selected for six awards, including the best film, director, actor and actress. The film fetched the best director award for Bala; best actor for Vikram and best actress for Laila. Surya and Sangeetha in their supporting roles in the movie were adjudged best too. The awards will be given away on June 12 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. Kakka Kakka got two awards best music direction for Harris Jayaraj and best villain award for Jeevan. Vivek was selected as the best comedian for his role in Saamy. Anbe Sivam won the Special Jury Award. Two veterans of the industry, playback singer K.J. Yesudas and actress Vijayashanthi have been selected for lifetime achievement awards. The other winners are: Telugu: Film - Okkadu (produced by M.S. Raju); director - Gunashekhar (Okkadu); actor - Mahesh Babu (Okkadu); actress - Asin (Amma Naana O Tamil Ammayi); music director - Mani Sharma (Okkadu); actor in a supporting role - Prakash Raj (Tagore); actress in a supporting role - Jayasudha (Amma Naana O Tamil Ammayi); comedian - Ali (Amma Naana O Tamil Ammayi); villain - Pavan Malhotra (Aithe). Malayalam: Film - Manasinakkare (produced by Subear); director - Sathyan Antikad (Manasinakkare); actor - Jayaram (Manasinakkare); actress - Meera Jasmine (Kasturimaan); music director - Ilayaraja (Manasinakkare). Kannada: Film - Paris Pranaya (produced by Nagathihalli Chandrashekar); director - Arun Prasad (Kichcha); actor - Sudeep (Swathi Muthu); actress - Meena (Swathi Muthu); music director - R.P. Patnaik (Excuse Me). Cinematographer Rajsekhar and choreographer Brinda bagged the technical awards for their contribution to the making of Kakka Kakka. Chakri won the best playback singer for Sathyam while Vishnu has been adjudged the best newcomer for his role in the film Vishnu.
