By P. Subramanyam
LONDON,
MAY 6.
Former England batsman Tom Graveney will take over as the president of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) for a year with effect from October 1, according to an announcement at Lord's on Wednesday.
The stylish 76-year-old righthanded batsman, who toured India in 1951-52 with the MCC team, will succeed Charles Fry.
Graveney, in his 24-year first-class career for Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Queensland (Australia) and England, scored 48,000 runs and took 80 wickets.
The uncle of the present England chairman of selectors, David Graveney, played 79 Tests and made 11 centuries.
