Indian boys in junior Davis Cupfinal

NEW DELHI, APRIL 30. The Indian boys overwhelmed the fourth-seeded Japan 3-0 in setting up a final against the top-seeded Australia in the ITF junior Davis Cup Asia-Oceania under-16 tennis tournament in Colombo on Friday. Jeevan Nedunchezhian, Rupesh Roy and Sanam Singh did not drop a set in either singles or doubles in helping the second-seeded India assert itself against the Japanese.

Australia, which completed its quarterfinal earlier in the day by beating Korea 2-1, struggled yet again in beating the sixth-seeded Chinese Taipei 2-1 in the semifinals.

The results (semifinals): India beat Japan 3-0 (Jeevan Nedunchezian bt Sho Aida 6-4, 6-0; Rupesh Roy bt Fumiaki Kita 6-0, 7-5; Rupesh Roy and Sanam Singh bt Sho Aida and Fumiaki Kita 6-1, 6-4).

Australia beat Chinese Taipei 2-1 (Matt Symons bt Yao-Cheng Wang 6-4, 6-2; Todd Ley lost to Hsin-Han Lee 4-6, 2-6; Steven Goh and Matt Symons bt Hsin-Han Lee and Tung-Han Lee 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
