It's likely to rain today

NEW DELHI APRIL 29. The Capital is likely to experience yet another pleasant day on Friday, with the weatherman's forecast being a partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain/thundershower in some areas that could also be accompanied by squall. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 36 degree Celsius.

The maximum and minimum temperature recorded at Safdarjung was 36.4 and 25.6 degree Celsius while Palam recorded a maximum of 36.7 and a minimum of 25.8.

Safdarjung recorded trace rainfall in the last 24 hours, while Palam received none. The maximum humidity in the Safdarjung and Palam were 59 and 50 per cent while the minimum was 34 and 27 per cent respectively.

Bank manager arrested

NEW DELHI APRIL 29. A senior manager with the Oriental Bank of Commerce has been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi police for allegedly duping several customers of their money by tampering with their deposits in the bank. He allegedly duped around 100 people depriving them of several lakhs of rupees.

According to the police, the accused Ram Vilas Garg, senior manager with the Shalimar Bagh Branch of the Oriental Bank of Commerce, used to issue receipts of the fixed deposits made by the customers but did not transfer the same into their account. Later, when the customers came to retrieve their amount, they found that there was no cash in their accounts following which they reported the matter to the police. Investigations revealed that Garg had duped 97 persons of Rs. 14 lakhs.

Labourers buried alive

NEW DELHI APRIL 29. Two labourers were killed in a wall collapse at the Yamuna Pushtha area of North Delhi this morning. According to the police, the labourers had been hired by two contractors who had been employed by a resident of Bihari basti here for some construction purpose.

The deceased - Jeetendra alias Jeete and Dayaram - were working on the site when one of the walls collapsed. While Jeetendra died on the spot, Dayaram succumbed to his injuries later in the hospital. The two contractors Chandramohan and Naim Singh arrested.

Conference begins today

New Delhi APRIL 29. The Chief Justice of India-designate and Executive Chairman of National Legal Services Authority Justice S. Rajendra Babu will tomorrow inaugurate a Conference of Executive Chairpersons and Member Secretaries of 34 State Legal Services Authorities here.

The Union Law Minister, Arun Jaitley, the Delhi High Court Chief Justice, B.C. Patel, te Delhi Lt.Governor,Vijai Kapoor, Attorney General Soli J.Sorabjee, Solicitor General Kirit Rawal, senior lwyer Fali S. Nariman and several other legal luminaries will also address the conference, official release said.

Hosted by the Delhi Legal Services Authority, it is aimed at taking stock of the performance of the State Legal Services Authorities and discuss problems of common concern, besides exploring ways and means for effective implementation of the scheme to achieve the objective of "justice for all".

Transferred

NEW DELHI APRIL 29. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Delhi), M.M. Oberoi, has now been asked to head the Indira Gandhi International Airport police. It is learnt that the Police Commissioner, K.K. Paul, issued the transfer order after Mr. Oberoi informed him that he was a distant relative of Ajay Maken, the Congress Lok Sabha candidate from New Delhi constituency.
