AIMMM to back Jethmalani

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, APRIL 14. The All-India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) has come out in support of the former Law Minister, Ram Jethmalani, who is contesting against the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, from Lucknow. " We appreciate his courageous initiative and appeal to the electorate to vote massively and unitedly in his favour," said the AIMMM president, Syed Shahabuddin.

In a statement today, he expressed disappointment at the decision of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to put up "non entities against the Prime Minister.'' "We appreciate the fact that the Indian National Congress, the Left and some secular parties have decided to extend support to Mr. Jethmalani, but are distressed by the attitude of the SP and the BSP," he added.

"Like the proverbial parrot, the life of the BJP lies in Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and he is more than a willing captive in the hands of the RSS," he said.
