Vellappally sees pro-LDF wave

By Our Special Correspondent

KOCHI, APRIL 5. The SNDP general secretary, Vellappally Natesan, feels that there is a `pro-LDF wave' in Kerala that will help the Left candidates win most of the seats.

However, he told The Hindu , this was a `negative wave' as it was the people's disappointment with the Congress that was turning into a pro-LDF wave. The people resented the `dirty dramas' the Congress factions had played, Mr. Natesan said.

He clarified that the SNDP council had not taken any decision to support individual candidates. The reports in the media in this regard were wrong, he said. The SNDP council had only decided to back those candidates who were pro-Backward Classes, irrespective of the candidates' political affiliations. The council had not decided on individual candidates and constituencies. He said the reports quoting him in certain newspapers and TV channels that the SNDP would support 11 LDF candidates were wrong.

The organisation would decide on individual candidates and constituencies later on the basis of feedback from the SNDP cadres. However, he said, the SNDP workers would definitely vote for LDF candidates in Kasaragod, Kozhikode and Ernakulam. In Kozhikode, the SNDP would vote against the UDF candidate, Mr. Balaram, as he had got the ticket for vacating the Wadakkancherry Assembly seat for the Electricity Minister, K. Muraleedharan.
