THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, APRIL 5. The Kerala State Television Awards for the year 2003 have been declared. The awards were announced by the Minister for Cultural Affairs, G. Karthikeyan, at a press conference here today. "American Dreams", produced by Valsala Sekhar and directed by Shajeeyem, has been adjudged the best teleserial. Both of them will receive a cash award of Rs.7,500, a citation and a statuette each. This serial has fetched for Ravi Vallathol, the award for the best actor. It also gets the award for the second best script, the winner of which is Renjith Shankar. Deepa Ayyankar and Meera Menon of this teleserial have been selected to share the award for the best supporting actress.
The award for the second best teleserial has been won by "Sreenarayana Guru", produced by E.N. Muraleedharan Nair and directed by Ajaynath. Besides a citation and a statuette, both of them will receive a cash prize of Rs.6,000. Both these serials were telecast over the Asianet channel. "Antharangal, produced by Siddique, directed by Unnikrishnan B. and telecast by the Surya TV has bagged the award for the best telefilm. The award carries a cash prize of Rs.7,500, a citation and a statuette. "An unfinished Movie", produced by Cherian Paul and Savy Mano Mathew and directed by Avira Rebecca, has been adjudged the second best telefilm. Pramod Payyannur is the best director, for his telefim "Devamanasam". The award for the best story goes to K.L. Mohana Varma, for "Parppidam", a Doordrashan presentation.
The best actress is Sarika, for her performance in "Ninakkayi" (Asianet) and the award for the best supporting actor goes to Manikantan, in the telefilm "Devamanasam". The best child artists are Chandynanar who acted in the telefim "Oru Pranayakatha" (Kairali) and Baby Swetha for her role in the telefilm `Kaali" (Doordarshan). Vaidi gets the award for the best videography ("Sheethakkattu", Surya TV)) and K. Sreenivas ("Hridayanilavathu", Asianet) has been selected to receive the award for the best editing. The best background score is by Madhu Dev ("Devamanasam"). The best sound recordist is Aji Kumarapuram ("Achan Ramakrishnan", and "Devamanasam", Kairali) and the best art director is Malayali ("An unfinished Movie"). In the non-fiction category, the best documentary is "Pathinettamathe Aana", produced by Savithri Divakaran and directed by P. Balan. Sajeev Pazhoor has been selected the best director for his work "Agnisakshiyude Sakshi", telecast over Kairali TV.
The best newsreader is Reshmi Maxim of Surya TV and the award for the best compere has been shared by M. Jayachandran ("Ragolsavam", Kairali) and C. Suresh Kumar ("Pattupetti", Asianet). Shaji Yohannan, who lent his voice for "Mookambikayilekkoru Theerthayatra" (Jeevan TV), has been selected as the best commentator. The best television programme of contemporary relevance is "Spandanam", produced and directed by Sasikumar Ambalathara (Doordarshan). "Harappa to Pokhran", produced by Saljith P.R., directed by Socrates Valeth and telecast by Surya TV gas been adjudged the best programme for children. The late Narendraprasad receives a special mention for his narration in "Agnisakhsiyude Sakshi". Anil Banerjee ("Munshi", Asianet) and Shiny Jacob Benjamin ("He Avan" , India Vision) have also been credited with special mention of the award jury. The award for the best article on television has gone to Ajayapuram Jyothishkumar, for his work "Television: Chila prathiloma drishyangal".
