New political tie-up in Bihar

PATNA, MARCH 27. A new political combination was today put in place in Bihar.

Comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Lok Janshakti Party, the Congress, the Nationalist Congress Party and the CPI (M), it would seek to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal(United) in the coming elections.

The RJD and the LJP presidents, Laloo Prasad Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan, made the announcement jointly.

Though the NCP sent a representative to the press conference, conspicuous by their absence were the Congress and CPI(M) representatives.

Mr. Yadav claimed that he had been authorised by the central leadership of the Congress to announce the tie-up and the seat-sharing arrangement reached at.

Under the arrangement, the Congress would contest four seats, the LJP eight, the NCP and the CPI(M) one each and the RJD 26.
