KOPPAL, MARCH 17. Arrangements for the elections have been completed in the Koppal Lok Sabha constituency and the five Assembly segments in the district. Simultaneous polling will be held on April 20. The district administration has completed revision of voters list and issuance of identity cards. It has identified 1,481 polling booths in the Koppal Lok Sabha constituency comprising Koppal, Kustagi, Yelburga, Gangavathi and Kanakagiri Assembly segments in Koppal district, Mundargi Assembly segment in Gadag district, Sindhanoor Assembly segment in Raichur district and Hospet Assembly segment in Bellary district. However, it has decided to classify sensitive polling stations in the Lok Sabha constituency after verifying the final list of candidates from various political parties and independents. The filing of nomination papers for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections will begin on March 24 and go on till March 31. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on April 1 and they can be withdrawn on or before April 3. Counting of votes will be taken up on May 13. According to sources, the district administration has obtained the required number of electronic voting machines for the elections. Training is being given to polling officials on how to use the voting machines. Representatives of the major political parties are being shown how the voting machines function. Arrangements have also been made to conduct mock polling exercises at the gram panchayat level in the district to train voters on the use of voting machines. There are 14,08,867 voters (7,00,172 men and 7,08,695 women) in the Koppal Lok Sabha constituency, an increase of 1,66,586 voters this time. There are 8,63,097 voters in the five Assembly constituencies in Koppal district, an increase of 1,09,890 voters over the number in the last elections. The number of polling stations in each Assembly segment in the Lok Sabha Constituency is Sindhanoor (221), Kustagi (193), Yelburga (172), Kanakagiri (201), Koppal 183), Gangavathi (192) Hospet (180) and Mundargi (139). The district administration has issued a circular to all political parties and those contesting as independents to abide by the rules prescribed by the Election Commission during campaigning.
