COIMBATORE, MARCH 16. The Judge of the Fast Track Court III, S. Murugan, today convicted and sentenced six persons to seven years' rigorous imprisonment in a case of dacoity and criminal intimidation. According to prosecution, a six-member gang stormed the house of an agriculturist, Marudhachalamurthy (45) of Thennamanallur near Thondamuthur, on April 13, 2003, and decamped with Rs. 38,000 in cash and seven sovereigns of jewellery at knifepoint. The Thondamuthur police registered a case of criminal intimidation and dacoity against the accused. They were identified as Chinnakaruppasamy (32), Chinnathambi (25) of Periyanaickenpalayam, besides Rajendran (25), Arumugam (23), Sivakumar (20) and Karuppasamy (23) of Kottaipalayam. Besides the imprisonment, they were awarded a fine of Rs. 5,000 each.
