NDF to take out `black march' tomorrow

By Our Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE, FEB. 9. The National Development Front (NDF) will take out a `black march' to the Secretariat and Collectorates in all the districts on February 11, demanding special recruitment in Government service for backward communities.

Memoranda will be submitted to the Chief Minister and District Collectors.

At a press conference here today, the NDF office-bearers alleged that the legitimate reservation posts had not been allocated to the backward sections.

Despite the Narendran Commission submitting its report on November 9, 2001, the Government was yet to initiate steps in this direction.

On the contrary, the UDF Government sought to maintain the hegemony of the privileged class through dubious means, it was alleged.

The statements made by the Chief Minister and Ministers on the Narendran Commission and the special recruitment testify the Government's support of the privileged, and betrayal of the backward sections.

Instead of implementing the special recruitment through an executive order, the Government was seeking to have a dialogue with the NSS, which does not even have a representative in the Assembly.

The Government had chosen to ignore the protests organised by Muslims, Latin Catholics, Deevars and Nadars.

The arguments being put forth by the NSS on the legality of the Narendran Commission report was contrary to the ground realities, they said.
