Power staff union plans dharna on February 9
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD,
FEB. 6.
Members of the United Electricity Employees' Union will stage a dharna in front of the office of Divisional Engineer here on February 9 to protest against the removal of a contract worker from service.
The division secretary of the CITU-affiliated union, K. Eswar Rao, in a release said that responding to the call given by the union to detect cases of power pilferage, several workers detected illegal connections and had taken them to the notice of officials. But the officials, instead of rewarding them, were removing them from service.
He said that when the contract worker, Umashankar, went to a residence in Asifnagar in Begum Bazar division to take meter reading, he noticed that the consumption had not been accounted for and no bill had been paid for over one year. He prepared the bill for all the earlier months amounting to Rs.29,000 and gave it to the officer concerned. But the officer allegedly reprimanded the worker. He was later removed from service.
The union demanded reinstatement of Umashankar.
