NDDB keen on promoting dairying in Nizamabad

By Our Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD, FEB. 6. The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) has come forward to extend technical support to the Mutually Aided Cooperative Societies (MACS), to take up dairying on a large scale in the district.

A senior executive of the NDDB, State office, Vijayawada, Sivaiah, was speaking at an interface programme organised by the Gram Abhyudaya Mandali, an NGO at its training centre in Suddapalli of Dichpalli mandal, on Friday. The NDDB official interacted with the MACS federation leaders and also representatives of the Non-Government Organisation. Dr. Sivaiah said the NDDB is keen to promote as many dairy units in the State as possible so as to bring a white revolution in the rural areas.

This is the second time in the last one month that Gram, which has floated 15 MACS federations in the district with over 34,000 women members ,organised an interactive session. Last time, the MACS federation leaders had a lively interactive session with the Nizamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI). The chamber president, Rajeev Puri, and former chief, D.Goutham, were impressed by the interest shown by the members and extended all support to the groups to enter the dairy activity.

Addressing the MACS federation leaders, Dr. Sivaiah, the NDDB is willing to support the district-level cooperative societies, which plan to enter the dairy sector. He advised the MACS leaders to form a separate society for the dairying activity. He suggested that the society could be named district milk producers union so that they could avail themselves of benefits accruing to them. The NDDB official explained in detail how the dairy activity was becoming a lucrative business proposition for rural women and farmers.

He said the collective efforts of farmers and women would easily bring about economic independence to the rural people. He said the NDDB would wholeheartedly support any venture initiated by the MACS federations and said it would also make arrangements for the exposure visits to the milk unions which had done good work.

He said the Mulkanoor Milk Producers Cooperative Society was one such enterprise, which has done wonders for the rural women in Karimnagar district. He advised the MACS federation leaders to pay a visit to Mulkanoor Dairy Cooperative society and have a first hand feel of the working conditions and the role played by the group leaders in encouraging the members.

Dr. Sivaiah explained the nuances of the dairy activity and underscored the need to provide quality milk. There is lot of potential for the dairy sector in Nizamabad district, he said adding that the enthusiasm of the women members was a great source of inspiration for others. The Gram Director, N.Samson, in his address said that the NGO had earlier entered into a strategic understanding with the NCCI, the first-of-its-kind attempt in the State wherein the trade body and the voluntary organisation decided to promote dairy activity.

He said that a number of financial institutions had come forward to provide funds to take up dairying. The Basix, another private financial organisation, has commissioned M-Cril, an rating agency to assess the performance of the MACS federations so that different financial institutions could fund the project. Area Manager of Basix, Hemanth Kumar, Indur Intideepam MACS federation chief, Ammula Muthemma, federation secretary, Suzana, GRAM coordinators - Alivelu, Mary, G.T.Rajesh and K.Jyotsana - were present.
