By Our Staff Reporter
VIJAYAWADA, JAN. 27. The Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority (VGTMUDA), in partnership with a private company, will develop a multiplex with mini-theatres, rotating restaurant and shopping complex on the hillock in Kasturibaipet as one of its tourism development project. The UDA Chairperson, Kolli Sarada, the Vice-Chairman, V.N. Vishnu, speaking to presspersons, said the Board of Directors who met here today approved the project in which the UDA would enjoy one-third equity and land would be leased out to the company for 30 years. Dr. Sarada said the UDA would also lease out a stretch of one km along the Krishna bank near the Vijayawada Club for developing beach sports complex. The UDA had in its possession a strip of land measuring 700 metres wide and 7 km long on the riverbank. Only one km stretch would be leased out for developing beach sports complex, she said. The Board also approved the creation of a renewable corpus fund with 50 per cent contribution from the public to develop health and education sectors. The UDA would sanction 50 per cent of the fund needed for the programme or activity. For projects below Rs. 5 lakhs, the committee would be asked to execute the work and for those above Rs. 5 lakh tenders would be called for. The chairperson said the UDA would make forays into new areas to herald all round development and not limiting itself with providing civic facilities. The works and programmes would be funded from the renewable corpus fund. The Board approved the developing of 50 acres in the Amaravati township into an "ideal'' housing project. The Singapore-based Sesma International had come forward to construct houses, apartment blocks, and the Reliance had come forward to lay the network of pipes to supply CNG and the HDFC had agreed to give loans at differential rates of interest. The APITCO had identified 25 acres close to the Amaravathi township in Mangalagiri to develop an Apparel Park and the UDA would also pursue the proposals to develop an IT park in the area. The Board, in a resolution, urged the Central and State Governments to recognise Krishna-Guntur districts as a special economic zone to develop industrial and food processing units. The Board also approved several infrastructural works and projects in Guntur and Krishna district at the meeting. The development of the Machilipatnam and Nizampatnam ports, both in the jurisdiction of the UDA, would change the economy of the area, she said. Dr. Sarada said that the Government extended the jurisdiction of the UDA. Amaravathi in Guntur district now falls in the purview of the UDA along with Kankipadu on the Vijayawada-Machilipatnam road. Towards Hyderabad, its jurisdiction extends up to Donabanda.
