MLAs seek inquiry into irregularities

By Our Staff Correspondent

DAVANGERE, JAN. 20 . P.T. Parameshwara Naik, Harpanahalli MLA, and S.A. Ravindranath, Mayakonda MLA, have demanded that an inquiry be held into public works undertaken in Davangere district.

At a meeting of the zilla panchayat here today, they alleged that there had been irregularities in public works undertaken in various taluks in the district. When the alleged irregularities in the implementation of public works at Harpanahalli came up for discussion, Mr. Naik, who represents Harpanahalli, strongly objected to it and said that there had been irregularities in all taluks and an inquiry should be conducted into them. He was not against an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in Harpanahalli taluk alone. But the alleged irregularities in public works in other taluks of the district should also be investigated, he added.

Mr. Ravindranath, who supported Mr. Naik, said that Rs. 50 lakh had been released to revive the Kunduwada Tank. But the tank bund had been damaged because of substandard work. He demanded that an inquiry be held into all public works in the district.

Mahabaleshwara Gowda, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Health and Education, said funds released to Harpanahalli for drinking water supply and other schemes had been misused.
