NAGERCOIL, JAN.8. Lucas, a police head constable attached to the Kuzhithurai police station in Kanyakumari district, was allegedly assaulted by a conductor of the TNSTC (division III) bus at Thuckalay near here on Wednesday. According to the police, the policeman boarded the bus at Marthandam and purchased a ticket to go to Swamiyarmadam. The bus halted at the Kattathurai bus stop and Mr. Lucas got down from the bus but immediately boarded it. The conductor, Vinod Kumar, purportedly took exception to Mr. Lucas disembarking from the bus before Swamiyarmadam and insisted that Mr. Lucas buy a ticket again. The latter objected to his demand, which resulted in a quarrel. In a complaint preferred with the Thuckalay police, Mr. Lucas claimed that Mr. Vinod Kumar "assaulted" him . In another complaint, Mr. Vinod Kumar alleged Mr. Lucas "attacked" him when he was asked to buy a fresh ticket. Both were admitted to the Government Hospital at Thuckalay.
