Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By Our Staff Reporter
Inaugurating the campaign at Visakhapatnam, the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, urged the medical fraternity to ensure that Andhra Pradesh joined the ranks of polio-free States. Mr. Naidu said that it was a matter of satisfaction that only 19 of the 214 cases reported in the country were from the State. He blamed Karnataka for the few cases that were reported in the districts bordering that State. He administered polio drops to the sons of the district collector, Sunil Sharma, and the joint collector, Piyush Kumar. The Health Minister, Kodela Siva Prasad Rao, said that even though all children in the 0-5 age group should be administered polio drops, some do get left out. A door-to-door campaign would be taken up from Monday to cover the children left out in the first round on Sunday so that their attendance was ensured for the second round on February 22. The Governor, Surjit Singh Barnala, administered polio drops to children at a camp organised by the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad at the Ameerpet Government Hospital. The Commercial Taxes Minister, K. Vijayrama Rao, the Tourism Minister, T. Srinivas Yadav, the former MLA, Sripath Rajeshwar, the MCH Commissioner, Chitra Ramachandran and some corporators were present.
