Karan enters last four

NEW DELHI DEC. 11 . The top-seeded Karan Rastogi asserted his class against the 15-year-old Sanam Singh in the quarterfinals of the Asian junior tennis championship at the DLTA Complex here on Thursday.

Once he gauged his diminutive opponent across the net, the 17-year-old Karan cut through with clinical precision 6-4, 6-0. Karan takes on the 61st ranked Chu-Huan Yi of Chinese Taiepi, a talented stroke-maker who serves hard, with the familiar force, craft and direction of a left-hander. Yi overcame a fighting Tushar Liberhan 7-6 (10-8), 4-6, 6-4.

The results: Boys (quarterfinals): Karan Rastogi bt Sanam Singh 6-4, 6-0; Chu-Huan Yi (Tpe) bt Tushar Liberhan 7-6 (10-8), 4-6, 6-4; R. Arun Prakash bt Chun-Yuan Chen (Tpe) 6-0, 6-0; Somdev Dev Varman bt Sunu Wahyu Trijati (Ina) 6-0, 6-2.

Doubles (semifinals): Chu-Huan Yi and Chun-Yuan Chen (Tpe) bt Sumit Prakash Gupta and Vikram Aditya Menon 6-4, 6-2; Karan Rastogi and Somdev Dev Varman bt Martin Sayer nd CheukWai Hui (Hkg) 6-1, 6-0; Quarterfinals : Chu-Huan Yi and Chun-Yuan Chen bt R. Arun Prakash and Divij Sharan 6-4, 0-6, 6-2.

Girls (quarterfinals): Yung-Jan Chan (Tpe) bt Kartiki Bhat 6-1, 6-3; Liu Wang-Ting (Chn) bt Ayu Fani Damayanti (Ina) 7-5, 3-6, 7-5; Wen-Hsin Hsu (Tpe) bt Ankita Bhambri 6-2, 6-3; Isha Lakhani bt Pichittra Thongdach (Tha) 6-2, 6-4.

Doubles (semifinals): Yung-Jan Chan (Tpe) and Isha Lakhani bt Shuai Zhang and Liu Wang-Ting (Chn) 6-1, 6-4; Ankita Bhambri and Sanaa Bhambri bt I-Hsuan Hwang and Wen-Hsin Hsu (Tpe) 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
