Speaking after unveiling the new car at a ceremony here, the MUL's Managing Director, Jagdish Khattar, said Zen's styling needed a makeover, so certain modifications were carried out that clearly highlighted the newly acquired research and development capabilities of Maruti. "For the first time, the entire styling and design of the car has been done in India, which cost the company around Rs. 40 crores.'' Stating that new Zen's three models LX, LXi and VXi would be available at an introductory price till December, Mr. Khattar said it retained all its popular attributes. He also announced that MUL might revise its car prices in January due to rising input costs. According to Mr. Khattar, by 2007, Suzuki, which acquires 52 per cent of MUL's shares, plans to make MUL as its R&D hub outside Japan for premium small cars.
