Maurti launches new Zen

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI NOV. 27. To further consolidate its position in the premium compact car segment, Maruti Udyog today unveiled its much-awaited `all-new' Zen without changing its existing prices. With the new model, entirely redesigned in India in the last two years, MUL hopes to increase its sales by 10 per cent.

Speaking after unveiling the new car at a ceremony here, the MUL's Managing Director, Jagdish Khattar, said Zen's styling needed a makeover, so certain modifications were carried out that clearly highlighted the newly acquired research and development capabilities of Maruti. "For the first time, the entire styling and design of the car has been done in India, which cost the company around Rs. 40 crores.''

Stating that new Zen's three models — LX, LXi and VXi — would be available at an introductory price till December, Mr. Khattar said it retained all its popular attributes. He also announced that MUL might revise its car prices in January due to rising input costs.

According to Mr. Khattar, by 2007, Suzuki, which acquires 52 per cent of MUL's shares, plans to make MUL as its R&D hub outside Japan for premium small cars.
