The meeting assumes significance in the context of the Cabinet clearing an ordinance to amend POTA to confer more powers on the panel to make its decisions binding on the Central and State Governments. The panel had requested the Government to provide basic infrastructure and manpower to facilitate proper functioning and till now this request was not addressed. But now with the Government deciding to confer more teeth and strengthen the machinery, Mr. Jaitley wanted to personally ascertain from Mr. Justice Saharya the requirements. Mr. Justice Saharya told The Hindu that Mr. Jaitley and Mr. Gopalaswami had assured him that the committee would be provided with all facilities and the requirements would be met immediately.
