Huge haul of RDX in J&K

JAMMU SEPT. 26. The Jammu and Kashmir police today foiled a major militant attack in Doda town of Jammu region, possibly on a Ramlila procession, when they seized a car containing 300 kg of RDX.

Acting on a tip-off, police found the vehicle (DEC-4404) parked behind the chief medical office on the Nagri-Tundwa road in Doda town this afternoon, sources told The Hindu. The car had a "perfectly circuited" RDX weighing more than 300 kg filled in pressure cookers and four cement bags. It also had two 12-volt batteries. The explosives could have caused mayhem had they not been detected, said an official.

A local person was later taken into custody and on the basis of his information, the driver of the car was identified. Sources said the car had developed an electric fault and the militants had called for an electrician. In the process, police received a tip-off.

Police suspect that the militants' target was the Ramlila procession which was to start in the evening.
