Admissions: KU panel to probe 'irregularities'

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Aug. 16. The Syndicate of the University of Kerala has authorised the university's affiliation committee to visit affiliated colleges and study admission procedures to verify complaints of irregularities in admissions there.

A pressnote issued here today said the committee has been asked to submit its report within a month. It was decided at today's meeting to explore the possibility of instituting a centralised process for conducting admissions to merit seats in self-financing B.Ed. colleges for the coming academic year.

The Syndicate also decided that the fee charged from candidates for revaluation of answersheets would be returned if after revaluation there is any change in the total marks scored. Further, it was decided to re-fix the revaluation fee at Rs. 250.

The Syndicate has asked the Registrar-in-charge, K. Mohanadas, to hold an inquiry into complaints that the Sree Kamraj Memorial College, Amaravila, is functioning with an affiliation from the Dr. C. V. Raman University in another State, even though the college is situated within the jurisdiction of the University of Kerala. As per the University of Kerala Act, a college situated within the jurisdiction of the university has to obtain the affiliation of the university itself.

The Syndicate also decided to approve the granting of doctorates to Asha G. Sivaram, P. C. Priya, R. G. Bobby, L. Anila (Bio-chemistry); R. G. Bindu (Physics); L. Shaila (Demography), P. R. Jayaraman (Aquatic Biology); T. C. Kishore Mohan (Botany); A. Reeni (Zoology); K. Manikantan Nair, D. Jayashree (Hindi); Anitha. P. Govind (Bio-technology); S. Geethadevi, C. Rajasekharan Pillai, L. R. Usha (Economics); G. Ushakumari (Sanskrit) and to P. Geethakumari (Politics).
