Govt. wants IFFCO, coops. to run FACT

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Aug. 7. The Government is seriously considering a proposal for joint management of the Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore (FACT) Limited, the Finance Minister, K. Sankaranarayanan, told the Assembly today.

Replying to a submission by the Leader of the Opposition, V.S. Achuthanandan, the Minister said the Cooperation Minister, M.V. Raghavan, would soon go to Delhi with a letter from the Chief Minister urging the Centre to transfer the factory for joint management by the Indian Farmers' Fertilizer Cooperative (IFFCO) and cooperatives in the State.

Earlier, Mr. Achuthanandan said he had been told by MPs from Kerala, who had taken up the matter with the Central Ministers concerned, that unless the State wrote to the Central Government seeking transfer of the factory to a joint venture by IFFCO and cooperatives, the Centre would not be able to do much in the matter. Mr. Sankaranarayanan said the matter had been discussed at length and it had been decided to explore the proposal for a joint initiative by IFFCO and State cooperatives.
