dated August 08,1953: Thiru-k-Kural's Teachings

The greatness of Thiru-k-Kural as a masterpiece of Tamizh scripture and a code of life was brought out by various speakers on the 5th, during the third day's meeting of the Madurai Thiruvalluvar Kazhagam's 12th anniversary celebrations. Mr. Karumuthu Thyagaraja Chettiar, Managing Editor, Tamil Nadu, presided over the function held at North Adi Veedhi in Sri Meenakshi Temple.

After prayer by Mr. Subbiah Oduvar, Srilasri Somasundara Desika Paramacharya Swamigal, junior Matathipathi of Tirugnanasambandar Mutt, Madurai delivered the benedictory address in the course of which he said that the best aspects of Tamil culture were found in Thiru-k-Kural.

It advised not only on Illaram and Thuravaram, that is code of conduct for householder and ascetic, but also spoke about life after death.

The Swamigal quoted from Thiru-k-Kural to show that there surely was life after death.

The President said in his speech it was appropriate that Madurai which was the seat of the Tamil Sangham and had fostered Tamil learning, should have its own Thiruvalluvar Kazhagam.
