Rs. 3 lakh in cash, 1 kg. of jewellery stolen

BANGALORE July 8. Burglars broke into the house of Kantilal, financier, on Model House Street in Basavanagudi and escaped with Rs. 3 lakh in cash and about a kg. of gold jewellery on Monday night. The Basavanagudi Police said Mr. Kantilal and his family had gone out to attend a marriage when the culprits entered his third-floor flat by breaking open the backdoor. The burglars rummaged through the lockers and almirahs before escaping with the valuables.

Kantilal owns a shop on Avenue Road. Police have taken up a case and launched a search to nab the burglars.

Robbed: Two software engineers were robbed of their mobile phones, credit and debit cards, and Rs. 500 in cash by a four-member gang in Adugodi Police Station limits early on Tuesday.

Police said Ashish Nishathnu and his friend were riding their motorcycle near National Games Village on 80-foot Road at about 1 a.m., when the gang waylaid them.

The gang assaulted them and forced them to part with their valuables, before fleeing.

An unidentified youth sprayed chilli powder on the eyes of a pedestrian, Sheila Naresh (45), before snatching away her mangalasutra in Ashoknagar Police Station limits on Tuesday morning.

Police said the victim was going on her morning walk near the hockey stadium when the youth accosted her.

Even as she stood squirming in pain, the culprit plucked her gold chain and fled.
