Identity slips for staff

By Our Special Correspondent

Chennai July 7. With several of the sacked government employees coming to the State Secretariat today, the Government issued fresh "identity slips" to the staff who continue to remain on its rolls.

Adding to the woes of the dismissed staff, only those with the identity slips would be let in to the Fort St. George, which houses the Secretariat, from tomorrow.

However, this morning, some of the "considerate" department secretaries allowed the staff into their section offices, but with a strict instruction that they should not touch the files.

"What did we do to invite this treatment? Hounded by the police, we are staying up for most part of the nights now, not knowing when they would knock our doors. Now, we are not even let into our offices, " rued a woman staff member at the Labour department.
