Escapes bid on life

SRINAGAR JULY 4. The Jammu and Kashmir Rural Development Minister, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, today escaped an assassination bid with minor injuries. Militants in Army uniform hurled a grenade and opened fire when he was inspecting a school at Kokernag, his constituency, 80 km from here. One person was killed and 28 were injured in the attack which took place around 12.45 p.m. The pro-Pakistan Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen claimed that it carried out the attack jointly with the Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami.
