Orders issued on DA payment

By Our Special Correspondent

Chennai June 30. With barely a day left for the strike by Tamil Nadu government employees to begin, the Government has issued orders giving effect to the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa's assurance on full cash payment of dearness allowance hike and gratuity.

At the talks held with leaders of unions including the JACTTEO-GEO and COTA-GEO on June 27, she conceded their demands for a three per cent hike in DA for this year and cash payment of the one per cent DA impounded in the Provident Fund last year. Accordingly, orders have been issued raising the DA from 49 per cent of the pay to 52 per cent with effect from July 1. The DA for pensioners and family pensioners has also been revised by three per cent.

Besides, the Government has sanctioned an ad-hoc increase for employees drawing an honorarium and consolidated pay, except noon meal staff. The employees drawing Rs.150 and above would get a Rs.20-hike per month and those getting less than Rs.150 (prior to January 1, 1996) would be given an additional Rs.10 per month.

The entire death-cum-retirement gratuity would be paid in cash for those retiring on or after April 1,2003.
