K.P. Candeth dead

New Delhi May 19. K.P. Candeth, hero of the 1961 Goa Liberation war and the 1971 Indo-Pak conflict, died here early this morning in his sleep.

He was 87 and a bachelor.

Lt.Gen. Candeth led the Indian Army operations for the liberation of Goa in 1961 and later served as its military Governor. He was the GOC-in-C of the Western Command during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

The Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, along with BJP president, Venkaiah Naidu, visited the residence of Gen. Candeth and placed a wreath on his body.
