By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM MAY 17. The Government has issued orders releasing the five per cent additional dearness allowance to Government employees and teachers sanctioned by the Government earlier.

With this, the dearness allowance goes up to 43 per cent of the basic pay, an official release said.

The five per cent dearness allowance includes three per cent due from July 2000 and two per cent due from January 2001.

The revised allowance could be drawn with salary for June 2003. The arrears will have to be deposited in the provident fund before November. The amount thus deposited could be withdrawn only on June 1, 2008 or on the date of superannuation whichever is earlier.

The orders on allowance will apply to full time Government employees, teachers of aided schools, private colleges, polytechnics, employees of local self governments, full-time and contingent employees, part-time teachers and part-time contingent workers. The service pensioners and family pensioners will also be eligible for the allowance at specified rates.
