This Day That Age
Dr. R.K. Shanmukham Chetti, former Finance Minister, Government of India, died in Coimbatore on the 5th evening. Ailing for sometime, he had a heart attack on the 3rd, and another fatal one on the 5th. Dr. Chetti had celebrated his shashtiabdapurthi in 1952. He left behind his wife and three daughters. Dr. Shanmukham Chetti played a full and active part in Indian political life both before and after Independence.
Born on October 17, 1892, he graduated from the Madras Christian College. Entering public life comparatively early, when only 28, he became a member of the Madras Legislative Council. Three years later, he was elected to the Central Assembly.
