Rail traffic suspended

CHENNAI MARCH 4. To facilitate completion of gauge conversion between Thanjavur and Kumbakonam before Mahamaham in February next, the Southern Railway has decided to suspend traffic on the section from May 1. From May 1, Trains 6701/6702 Tambaram - Rameswaram Expresses, 811/ 812 Tambaram - Tiruchi Passengers, 824 Tiruchi - Chengalpattu Passenger and 839 Chengalpattu - Villupuram Passenger will be cancelled fully.

Trains 6713/ 6714 Tambaram - Rameswaram Sethu Expresses will be diverted via Mayiladuturai, Tiruvarur, Tiruthuraipoondi and Karaikudi in both directions, and 6853/6854 Tambaram - Tiruchi Cholan Expresses and 813/814 Tambaram - Thanjavur Passengers will run between Tambaram and Kumbakonam only, according to an official release.
