Letters to the Editor
Sir, Your Editorial `Gender and justice' (Feb. 7): female foeticide or female infanticide is common in rural areas where the writ of the local "nurses" still runs.
These "quacks-cum-spiritual experts" convince the womenfolk to get rid of the female foetus or child while the men folk watch helplessly. Since our laws are lenient when it comes to punishing women, these quacks enjoy immunity from law. Unless laws are reviewed and made more punitive, there is no hope for ending this barbaric practice.
