Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Staff Reporter
The Chief Minister's observation that private managements which could not set apart 50 per cent of seats for admission from the merit quota need not run such colleges and that profit or loss should not be the criterion for running such institutions was tantamount to disrespect of the Supreme Court, John Kachirmattam, president of the AKCC, said. In a statement here today, he accused Mr. Antony of being opportunistic and having gone back on the issue of setting up self-financing professional courses in the State. The entire community would remain solid behind the management of the Pushpagiri Medical College and would spare no effort at safeguarding its interests, Mr. John said. The Inter Church Council for Education too has come out strongly against the `negative attitude of the State Government towards the self-financing professional colleges'. In the matter of admission of students to these institutions, all Christian managements shared the same view, Philip Nelpuraparampil, official spokesperson of the council, said.
