Railway union to resist privatisation move

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD Feb.11. The SCR Mazdoor Union would resist efforts to close railway printing presses and efforts to privatise services, said N. Sundaresan, general secretary, here on Tuesday. Addressing a lunch-hour meeting of the union opposite the Rail Nilayam, he demanded filling of the vacant posts and stopping of outsourcing and offloading of works in the Railway.

He said the joint general council of both the railwaymen's federations would meet in Delhi next month to decide the future course of industrial action in support of the demands.

The Standing Committee of the JCM National Council would meet on February 14 to discuss the merger of DA with basic pay and the proposed changes in the DA formula for Central staff.

The union held a demonstration at the SCR printing press after taking out a procession. It submitted a memorandum to the Controller of Stores, Amitab Datta, opposing privatisation.
