Rajagopal to keep off NSS College meet

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Feb. 11. Terming the ongoing controversy with the Nair Service Society (NSS) as `unnecessary', the Union Minister of State for Defence, O. Rajagopal has decided not to take part in the inauguration of the social service programme organised by the Changanassery Perunna NSS College Union.

Talking to presspersons prior to the civic reception accorded to him by the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation here today, Mr. Rajagopal said he was not willing to create an issue over the cancellation of his programme, which was scheduled to be held at the college on February 3. He said he had agreed to take part in the inauguration of the Saraswathi Seva scheme and `Kudumba Sangamam' on the invitation of the college union representatives.

"Taking part in a programme organised by a socio-cultural organisation for the benefit of the economically backward students is not a crime. At one stage, when differences of opinion had been created in connection with the incident, I had decided not to take part in the programme even though the function was postponed," he said. ``It is not my aim to create rift among people for petty political mileage. My only aim is to carry out development activities for the benefit of the people by joining hands with different political parties and people, keeping aside all other differences,'' Mr. Rajagopal said.
