Ms. Choudhury apprised Ms. Gandhi about the difficulties being faced by thousands of people living in the six villages of Delhi Cantonment. She said despite continued efforts for almost four years and constant correspondence with the Defence Minister, nothing had been done by the NDA Government at the Centre to provide basic amenities to the villagers. "The Army personnel are even threatening to evict these villagers,'' she said. According to Ms. Choudhury, all formalities like measurement and survey had been completed for the gazette notification for declaring all these villages as civil area. For her part, Ms. Gandhi heard out the villagers and said she would take up the matter with the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee.
