Bengal cueist Damani relied on his consistent breaks, though he had nothing extraordinary to show for. Damani's major breaks comprised 42 and 38, but his resolve to carry on with the two-hour game helped him for the surprise win.
Aditya had two breaks of 50 each, but he wasted many visits to the table, and paid the price.
While Damani took the centrestage, defending champion Pankaj Advani was at his best. Though Advani missed the century break by 14 points, it was he who mesmerised the audience with his show.
Playing against Sunil Rastogi of Uttar Pradesh, Advani took little time to break into his own class, and ended just three points from reaching the 1000 mark.
Advani, the double champion, had seven half-century breaks, highest being 86. He also had scores of 59, 82, 78, 66, 66 and 58, which was enough to carry him into the quarterfinals. Pankaj won 997-162. He now meets Ravinder Singh of Rajasthan in the quarters.
Elsewhere, Junior World number nine Vaibhav Punvatkar virtually psyched his opponent from Jammu and Kashmir, Ishan Sharma. Punvatkar, who represented India at the Sydney Worlds, was just about got into his groove and led 327-75 in 45 minutes when Ishan resigned the game.
Also making it to the last eight stage were third seed Sourav Kothari of Bengal, Vinay Katrela of Karnataka, Pamin Shah of Gujarat and second seed Rishabh Thakkar of Maharashtra, and qualifier Aparajit Mittal of Maharashtra.
Four players will make it to the final, which will be played on the league basis with the one with maximum wins taking the title.
