Train disaster averted

Raiganj Dec. 21. A disaster was averted today when the driver of the Radhikapur-Katihar passenger stopped the train after spotting broken fish-plates near Bamunga flag station, a few km from Raiganj station in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district, sources in the Northeastern Frontier Railway said. The train, bound for Katihar in Bihar, resumed its journey after the track was repaired in an hour's time. Asked if the incident could be an act of sabotage, the sources said a high-level investigation had been launched.

In another incident, passengers travelling in the Kurla-Muzaffarpur Pawan Express had a miraculous escape on Friday when the train narrowly missed contact with an overhead high tension wire, which had snapped. — PTI
