CHENNAI DEC. 16. Sixteen-year-old Shekhar Naik, the highest run-getter in the recently concluded Petro World Cup for the blind, was given the `Philips best Indian cricketer of the tournament' in a function at a city hotel, here, on Monday. Naik was also given tickets (all expenses paid trip) to watch the Cricket World Cup to be held in South Africa early next year.

Speaking to newspersons, Mr. Suresh Sukumaran, Senior General Manager- Marketing (Television), Consumer Electronics Division, Philips India Ltd., said that his company would like to be involved with the noble cause like blind cricket in a bigger way in the future. The award for Naik is for "his all-round excellence and his contribution to Indian cricket."

Mr. George Abraham, Chairman, Association for Cricket for Blind in India, said that he plans to introduce academies in Chennai, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Jamshedpur, which will help the blind cricketers hone their skills. He also said that if financial side permits, there would be an annual India-Sri Lanka Series every year. Once in two years, there will be tours to Australia and England, he added. "We have plans to introduce inter-zonal tournament and Challenger Series every year," Abraham said.
