Milma launches 200-ml milk sachets

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Dec. 8. The Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) is making available double toned milk in 200-ml sachets in the city.

The product, `Milma Smart', was launched here on Saturday by the Director of Dairy Development, Anand.

The chairman of the Thiruvananthapuram Regional Cooperative Milk Producers' Union, Nandiyode Rajan, the managing director, M. R. Saratchandran, and a host of other TRCMPU officials were present on the occasion.

The 200 ml sachets are priced at Rs. 2-50 and will be available in Kollam and Alappuzha districts also.

Double toned milk contains just half of the fat that is present in ordinary toned milk, while its protein, minerals and vitamin content is more than what is present in toned milk.

Hence it is more suited for people with high cholesterol problems.

At present, families, which require less than half-a-litre of milk depend on traditional milk vendors for their daily supply. The 200 ml sachets are also being introduced with an eye on the considerable bachelor and single working women population, who can have their quota of milk daily without having to store left over milk, TRCMPU officials said.

The 200-ml sachets will be distributed to anganwadis also under the State Government's `A cup of milk and handshake ' scheme.
